As Springboks skipper Siya Kolisi prepares to leave Cell C Sharks, emotions are already running high as he and Thomas Du Toit will play their last match in Durban this coming weekend.
Kolisi is on his way to join French side Racing 92 and they will be both featuring for the Durban franchise in the United Rugby Championship at home versus Munster.
Ahead of the clash slated for Kings Park Stadium in Durban, Du Toit praised Kolisi as the leader, saying leaving a club he played for since 2013 is quite emotional.
The 27-year-old Sharks veteran will leave the side and team up with his English outfit, Bath when the Sharks are knocked out of the URC.
Having completed his move from DHL Stormers in 2021, Kolisi is praised by Du Toit for making a massive impact in Durban.
“Siya is a natural leader, he gets along with most people and he brought that personality and inclusiveness (to the Sharks),” said Du Toit per The Citizen.
“He’s done well getting to know everyone…and made a good impact with the players.”
Currently occupying the eighth spot on the log table and just about certain of playing in a quarter-final away from home, a win against Munster could get them into seventh spot or higher, depending what happens with the Vodacom Blue Bulls who are seventh and Connacht who sit sixth.
“It (Munster) won’t be the same team, especially because of the way we played against them the last time,” he added.
“This will definitely be my last URC game at Kings Park. I realised just the other day that a decade here is coming to an end. It’s now sinking in, and I’m quite emotional…it hurts a bit to be leaving, but it’s also exciting.”
On the importance of managing his emotions, the vetran player said he will simply have to process it but admits it would be naïve for him to say he hasn’t been thinking about it.
“I want to leave on a high, leave the jersey in a better place … it’s something we always talk about as players, and now it is my reality,” he concluded.
