Thousands of players have left Kaizer Chiefs with goodbye messages, but Siyethemba Sithebe’s heartfelt farewell resonates deeply.
As reported by FARPost’s leading journalist Mthokozisi Dube, Amakhosi have chosen not to renew the contracts of four senior players, including the 31-year-old Sithebe. Taking to Instagram, Sithebe expressed his gratitude: “Ngidlulise ukubonga ku Khosi nation. Ithuba engilitholile ayi isandla sidlula ikhanda. Wish you the best season and future. [I pass my gratitude to the Kaizer Chiefs nation. Representing the club was an unbelievable opportunity.]”
Latest Developments
In the meantime, newly arrived assistant coach Fernando Cruz will assess the squad before head coach Nasreddine Nabi arrives next month. The Amakhosi are expected to add new players to their roster to better compete against rivals like Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates next season.
Da Cruz, who arrives this week, will begin working with the squad immediately. According to last season’s data, Amakhosi currently have 32 players, excluding two pending departures. Reports suggest that 25-year-old Colombian striker Jasond Gonzalez is also set to be officially released by Kaizer Chiefs.
“Kaizer Chiefs have opted against taking the option in Jasond Gonzalez’s contract to make his loan move permanent,” reported iDiski Times. “This publication has learned that the physical striker will return to Bolivian club Real Santa Cruz at the end of the 2023/24 DStv Premiership season.”
Gonzalez’s loan deal, which included an option to make the transfer permanent for $180,000 (R3.4 million), will not be pursued further after he failed to score in his 12 games for Amakhosi.
