The Black Coffee Foundation achieved a remarkable milestone at its recent black-tie gala, raising an impressive R3.1 million in support of The Black Coffee Music Academy.
The event, which also marked Black Coffee’s birthday, was a celebration of music, philanthropy, and purpose, with the funds raised directly contributing to the development of the academy.
Held at the luxurious LUXX Venue Sandhurst, the gala attracted some of South Africa’s most influential figures, including Fikile Mbalula, Major League DJz, Oskido, Anatii, and Somizi, among others.
Hosted by Anele Mdoda, the evening was filled with performances, gourmet dining, and an exclusive live auction. Auctioned items included a signature Nelson Makamo artwork, luxury sneakers, fine jewellery, and a limited-edition Rolex watch, all of which helped drive the record-breaking total.
The R3.1 million raised will be instrumental in establishing The Black Coffee Music Academy, a world-class institution dedicated to equipping young African musicians with the skills and knowledge they need to succeed on the global stage.
The academy’s programs will cover music production, the business of music, album creation, and more, ensuring the next generation of talent is prepared to make a lasting impact.
Through a combination of online pledges and in-room bidding, the gala far exceeded its fundraising goal, underscoring the powerful support for Black Coffee’s vision of nurturing and empowering African artists.
Black Coffee expressed his gratitude: “This initiative has been a dream of mine for a long time, and it’s truly incredible to see it finally come to life – starting with this very special evening, surrounded by people who believe in the power of music education.
“I’ve always been committed to leaving the world a better place, and this Academy is part of that vision. It’s about building an impactful legacy that will ensure South African and African music continues to take on the global stage.”
