Heavy-K wants recognition while defending his legacy: I changed the direction of the game!’

Heavy-K, actual name Mkhululi Siqula, is an award-winning DJ, musician, and music producer who recently took to Twitter to reflect on his career in the music industry.

Heavy-K chose to voice his stance when Kabza De Small received backlash online for refusing interviews and openly speaking about his expertise of amapiano.

In his lengthy thread, the “Wena” hitmaker described how he related to the current reaction Kabza De Small was facing, claiming it occurred to him during his peak.

Heavy-K tweeted, “What they doing to Kabza is the same thing they did to me during my prime! I knew it would happen being a hit maker and consistency irritates some of our people so much that they compare you to each and every artist that rises!”

The entertainment sector is, by definition, seasonal. Someone is hot property one minute and someone else is the next great thing the next. That is the unfortunate fact.

Heavy-K had hit singles including “Inde,” “Beautiful War,” “Umoya,” and “Gunsong” during his peak.

When one Twitter user replied to his remark by saying Heavy K had recognised that his prime was ended, he explained that prime does not endure forever.

“Prime doesn’t last forever, I’m just maintaining what I’ve achieved over the years and growing my brand globally … you are entitled to your opinions no hard feelings 👌🏽.”

Especially after he had worked so hard and affected the game in numerous ways at a young age, and had gone on to work with famous singers like Ed Sheeran and Jorja Smith.

Not everyone seems to agree with the Metro FM Award winner’s point of view. Heavy-K created wonderful music, but he isn’t what Kabza is to piano, according to one Twitter user.

Heavy-K blew his own trumpet in return, telling the tweep that he affected the game and came with his own sound.

Heavy-K claimed that while people are not required to appreciate him or his music, they should not insult his heritage.

The DJ told his followers that his lengthy outburst was not a meltdown, but that he would not allow disrespect to his name.

“I’m not having any meltdowns trust me! If y’all can see where I’m at and how happy I am! But I won’t tolerate any disrespect, I’ll do anything to protect my legacy and my truth,” he tweeted.
